The buzz: IoT.
When we discuss the Internet of Things (IoT) as a vast ecosystem of physical objects connected to the Internet, we tend to think mainly in terms of processing massive amounts of data.
But there’s a major management challenge few if any have addressed: how to change our management practices to take advantage of the fact that — for the first time ever — everyone who needs it can share real-time information about the company and do it instantly?
That will demand a major shift in management styles, especially requiring senior managers to relinquish control of traditional top-down data flow.
The experts speak.
W. David Stephenson, Stephenson Strategies: “The Web as I envisaged it, we have not yet seen it yet. The Future is still so much bigger than the past.” (Tim Berners-Lee)
David Jonker, SAP: “We are now being exposed to as much information in a single day as our 15th century ancestors were exposed to in their entire lifetime.” (Human Face of Big Data documentary)
Ira Berk, SAP: “In God we trust. All others must bring data.” (W. Edwards Deming)
