Industry-specific solutions, platform enhancements, new BI functions – Innovations 2010, also known as BS7 i2010, comprises all of the latest releases and enhancement packages for SAP Business Suite.
SAP Business Suite itself, meanwhile, consists of the following core applications:
- SAP ERP
- SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM)
- SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM)
- SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SAP SRM)
- SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM)
With this comprehensive package, companies no longer need to assemble their software from individual components; for more, check out the article “One for All: 365 Days of SAP Business Suite.”
Innovations 2010 refers to all of the updates and enhancement packages for SAP Business Suite, such as EHP 2 for SAP NetWeaver 7, EHP 5 for SAP ERP 6.0, and all of the EHPs for SAP CRM, SAP SRM, SAP SCM, and SAP PLM. Most of the enhancement packages, however, are still in the ramp-up phase.
A simple maxim sums up the idea behind these packages: “innovation without disruption.” By updating SAP Business Suite regularly in this way, SAP has made expensive, time-consuming release upgrades a thing of the past.
To read more about the reduced time and effort required to install enhancement packages, don’t forget our article “EHP Just a Few Clicks Away.” Meanwhile, EHPs also offer full flexibility by giving companies the choice of performing a comprehensive installation or selecting which packages to activate and use.
We’ve got updates: in-memory technology, Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is increasingly finding its way into the world of business, as SAP Business Suite’s collaboration functions demonstrate. Much like on Facebook, employees can use them to connect with one another through a internal company portal, share files, and view the current status of projects.
Meanwhile, the in-memory technology at the heart of SAP HANA stores data directly in server RAM, which enables users to analyze business data in near real time. The related BI functions which the SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 solutions provide also make it possible to generate more accurate forecasts.
Finance departments can look forward to functions designed to make their work easier. Master data governance, for example, makes it possible to track and document changes while taking all of the applicable legal regulations into account. Financial service providers, telecommunications firms, and utility companies now have a way to create convergent price rates and invoices, as well as functions for cost, profit analysis, and cost center management. In addition, SAP for Banking now offers extended options in connection with the legal provisions of Basel II.
For manufacturing departments, lean planning helps ensure improved quality inspections and notifies users in time when stocks are about to reach excessive levels in production. The corresponding enhancement packages give users ways to integrate and coordinate processes with external manufacturing partners. In addition, SAP has made improvements along the procurement chain by optimizing vendor management and added new functions that include synchronized bills of materials.
The new EHPs for SAP Business Suite also enable product developers to transfer their construction and production structures to their manufacturing departments. This includes data on prices, quality, and CO2 emission profiles.
To ensure more streamlined company management, a shared service center provides central access to IT employees and gives admins a central location for incorporating new functions into their systems.
Marketing departments, meanwhile, receive enhanced functions for trade promotion management, and consumer products companies can already benefit from in-memory technology today in the form of real-time overviews of their advertising expense subsidies.
Innovations 2010 for SAP Business Suite is only available to customers using SAP ERP 6.0 (with EHP 4) and SAP PLM 7.0, SAP CRM 7.0, SAP SRM 7.0, and SAP SCM 7.0. Those who still have SAP PLM 4.0, SAP CRM 4.0, SAP SRM 3.0, and SAP SCM 4.1 installed can upgrade directly to version 7.0 of each application. Remember – doing so may require adjustments to your hardware, operating systems, or databases. If you use the applications in different languages, you may also have to carry out a Unicode conversion. For more on what to keep in mind when considering an upgrade, check out the article “From ERP 6.0 to Business Suite 7.”
