EHP 6 for SAP ERP 6.0: Top 10 Functions

Since SAP began releasing enhancement packages (EHPs) for its ERP application in 2006, the number of new and enhanced business functions has steadily increased. The most recent one, EHP 6 for SAP ERP 6.0, contains 694 business functions: 177 of these are completely new improvements, and the rest are all the functions previously released in EHPs 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Here’s a look at the top 10 cross-industry business functions in EHP 6 for SAP ERP 6.0:

1. Enterprise Asset Management Part 5

Customers who have SAP ERP 6.0 and make use of the plant maintenance component can look forward to three efficiency improvements after implementing Enterprise Asset Management Part 5. For one, it gives users the ability to add purchase requisition fields directly to the operation overview and component overview of a given order. This saves hard-working employees from having to make that extra click to view the purchase requisition fields in detail processing. Another time-saver: Maintenance plans can now be rescheduled automatically when the maintenance strategy has been changed. And lastly, users can change the content of different fields for multiple order operations at the same time.

2. Localization Topics for Russia 3

If they want to stay on the right side of Russian law, global companies with operations in this country will want to update their Financial Accounting, Materials Management, and Sales and Distribution components in SAP ERP 6.0. This new business function allows users to print an accounting statement, which is legally required even when no other accounting document exists to confirm a transaction; gives them more flexibility to create and change import customs declarations; and helps users make sure invoices reflect Russian retail law, which requires that payment terms match the shelf life of a given good. It also delivers new features for separate VAT accounting, VAT for goods in transit, and for VAT returns.

3. Leave Request Brazil and Online W-2 US

Businesses in Brazil and the U.S. can make the lives of their employees just a bit easier by activating this business function. It adds two new self-service features to the Human Capital Management component in SAP ERP 6.0. In Brazil, users can now process leave requests using country-specific features, such as granting pecuniary bonuses and advanced payment of Christmas allowances. In the U.S., SAP customers’ employees can now ask to receive their W-2 and W-2c forms online – rather than by mail – using a dedicated employee self-service tool.

4. Localization for China

For customers with operations in China, this localization update for Financial Accounting in SAP ERP 6.0 delivers a slew of new features. With it, users are now able to assign official document numbers to financial documents, maintain general ledger account attributes, create hierarchies of general ledger accounts, and access new options for general ledger account balances and account vouchers. In terms of financial statements, users can create balance sheets and profit and loss statements per profit center, per business area, and in foreign currencies. The profit and loss carry forward report has new simulation features. And there are new options to analyze open items in accounts receivable and accounts payable, as well as in the goods receipt and invoice receipt clearing reports.

5. Basic Order Integration for SAP ERP and SAP Transportation Management

In a competitive market, efficiently moving goods along the supply chain is crucial. To do so, companies will want to activate this new business function, which integrates their SAP ERP system with SAP Transportation Management (TM). The integration transfers orders from SAP ERP to SAP TM at an early stage in the order management process, so users can better perform better transportation planning for sales orders, returns orders, purchase orders, and stock transport orders. It also transfers information about freight orders and freight units from SAP TM to SAP ERP, so users can optimize their inbound and outbound deliveries.

6. Roles for Manager Self-Service and Business Unit Analysis

Software is ultimately there to help make workers more productive and effective. And such is the case with the new business function for SAP ERP 6.0 that lets you create roles for manager self-service and business unit analysis in SAP NetWeaver Business Client and SAP NetWeaver Portal. Now business unit analysts can monitor, plan, and analyze the budget for their business unit and project. And managers can conduct financial management and project management tasks assigned to their role – all from one central location.

7. Electronic Payment Integration for China

Making electronic payments to a domestic bank in China is now much simpler and faster, thanks to a new business function in the area of accounts payable in SAP ERP 6.0. This new function lets companies create and send payments directly from SAP ERP to a domestic Chinese bank of their choice without having to use third-party software. This occurs via a Remote Function Call connection to the bank’s communication client, which can also be used to request information from the bank, such as an account balance. In addition, companies are now able to authorize users to perform different role-based actions in the approval process. For example, processors can send payments to other users for approval, or they can be allowed to release items under a certain amount for direct payment. Administrators determine which employees can act as approvers and at what level.

8. Integration of Production Processes with an MES

Businesses in the manufacturing industry can increase efficiency in their production processes by integrating SAP ERP and manufacturing execution systems (MES) more closely. The initial integration was delivered via a previous enhancement and made it possible for users to define which production orders created in SAP ERP should be synchronized in the MES. Users could also monitor the status of orders and get confirmation of the quantities manufactured. Now, thanks to a second enhancement, the integration has been further improved with several new features. Users can now use a data replication framework to transfer master data and transaction data from SAP ERP to an MES, allowing them to specify which data they want to replicate. Improved production order integration ensures that a changed order is automatically send to the MES again. And there is now integration support for planned orders too.

9. Tax Simplifier Statement for India

Filing taxes – no matter the country – isn’t usually an enjoyable process. But with this country-specific enhancement for payroll, colleagues in India may find the task a bit easier than before. The new business function allows employees to generate a PDF overview of all the salary components and income tax calculations for the current financial year using a simple, straightforward employee self-service application. Activate this localized enhancement and your employees will thank you.

10. Localization Topics for India

This enhancement to the SAP Human Capital Management delivers a new employee self-service application for users in India. With it, workers can enter details for their income tax declaration, including savings information, section 80 deductions (for pension funds, medical premiums, and donations to some charities), section 80C deductions (proposed and actual investments), previous employment details, and housing information. Approvers can approve or decline requests and use the information for their own records.
