Shawn P. McCarthy Research Director, IDC Government Insights
Shawn P. McCarthy is research director at IDC Government Insights, where he manages a large technology research program and advisory service and produces several government IT spending forecasts – for both government and commercial clients.
Prior to joining IDC, Shawn served as program manager for Government & Education within IDC’s Vertical Industry Research Group. Before that he served as a group product manager for four years at Lycos, the Internet search engine. In the 1990s he was senior editor at Government Computer News and he still writes the Internaut column for GCN.
Shawn is the author of three books, has written several technology articles for The Washington Post.
He has a Masters degree from The George Washington University, a Bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University, and a certificate in project management for IT programs.
