Kienbaum: Full Transparency in the Boardroom

Feature Article | June 15, 2017 by Rainer Stoll

International HR and management consultancy Kienbaum uses SAP Digital Boardroom to run its operations and offer digital services for its customers.

SAP Digital Boardroom, running on SAP Cloud Platform, helps companies contextualize and simplify performance reporting across all areas of business in real time through data visualization.

Kienbaum specializes in inspiring people so they can achieve success out of change. With its focus on finding the right people for executive positions, companies turn to Kienbaum to find the leaders of the future. Kienbaum chose SAP Digital Boardroom to run its management and reporting tools on an advanced technology platform. It will also use the cloud-based solution from SAP to create own digital services for boards and offer these to its customers.

“SAP is the ideal strategic partner to help us run our internal processes on the latest digital technologies,” says Fabian Kienbaum, a managing partner at the family-owned business. “In addition, SAP provides the technology platform we need to build our own digital products and services and to launch them in the market.”

In a first step, the consultancy transitioned its ERP processes, some of which were still based on spreadsheets, to the cloud-based SAP Business ByDesign solution. It went live in early 2017. The solution has enabled Kienbaum to standardize processes and metrics throughout the company.

“These ERP processes are the foundation for SAP Digital Boardroom,” says Fabian Kienbaum. The group will begin by using SAP Digital Boardroom to manage its own finance, HR and sales processes. Their new, fully digitized ERP processes and SAP Digital Boardroom give Kienbaum complete transparency into all parts of its business.

“Management can call up the facts it needs, at any level of detail, at the press of a button, and visualize and analyze metrics in real time. This makes our reporting, forecasting, and budgeting more efficient, and we will be able to keep our business on track much more easily in the future,” says Kienbaum.

Digital Services for Boards

In addition, Kienbaum wants to offer its expertise in using SAP Digital Boardroom to its own customers.

“Over the next few years, we want to work with SAP on building services on this technology platform that are targeted at board members,” says Bernd Schichold, managing partner of SAFE GmbH, a Kienbaum-group company.

“SAP Digital Boardroom is ideal for helping directors fulfill their role in a reliable way,” says Schichold. Use cases include directors’ duty to comply with required documentation or the provision of financial information by the CFO to directors – all tailored to the individual customer. SAFE also wants to offer digital services based on SAP Digital Boardroom.

“Our digitized services will aid the decision-making processes at board level,” says Schichold. “These services will allow Kienbaum Group to tap into a whole new digital business segment.”
