National University of Singapore Goes Live with mySAP™ Enterprise Portal

NUS Successfully Streamlines Heterogeneous IT Landscape, Laying Foundation for Continued Expansion as One of Asia Pacific’s Leading Universities

SingaporeSAP Asia today announced that the National University of Singapore (NUS) has successfully gone live with a Web-based employee portal named myNUS, using mySAP™ Enterprise Portal, a people-centric solution for unified access to applications, databases, knowledge management systems, and Web-based content and services. The myNUS portal currently offers 6,000 university employees the ability to sign on once to gain quick and easy access to more than twenty applications, services, and information sources from across the campus. This will make it one of the first and largest enterprise portals within the education sector in Asia Pacific. The implementation of myNUS portal is one of a number of large-scale mySAP Enterprise Portal successes by SAP’s customers over the past few months.

Increased Efficiencies to Support Growth and Excellence

“The implementation of mySAP Enterprise Portal is a timely one,” said Professor Lawrence Wong, director of Computer Center, NUS. “As the University has grown — in terms of knowledge base, courses, students, staff, and physical infrastructure — so did our number of IT systems that helped to support and manage these areas. We ended up with a highly heterogeneous IT environment, which we knew could be streamlined to increase productivity and lower our total cost of ownership. In particular, we had a number of non-integrated systems across the NUS campus, ranging from faculty and facilities management to library and academic support systems, that required users to keep track of multiple log-ins and inconsistent access methods.”

In addition, the myNUS portal has enhanced the clarity of work roles among users and has tightened control and access for the numerous projects that the university has been simultaneously undertaking, especially since these often involved a large number of project members and roles. Since myNUS went live, users have had one-point access to information based on their roles and authorization levels.

Complete Visibility Improves Administration and Overall Management

In addition to mySAP Enterprise Portal, NUS implemented SAP® Business Warehouse to help the university consolidate the generation of reports from its various systems. “Once we have extended myNUS and SAP Business Warehouse to the entire campus, we will be able to have a complete and consolidated view of required information,” said Professor Wong. “This standardized information access across the organization will help us improve the administration and overall management of the university.”
