Swaziland – a small landlocked country, bordering on South Africa and Mozambique. Africa’s last absolute monarchy has the highest HIV / AIDS infection rate worldwide. As a result, 15,000 households in Swaziland are headed by orphans. SAP supports the Young Heroes, a non-governmental organization that helps orphans with education, software, and hardware donations.

To improve their online system where donors can select a family they would like to support, Young Heroes turned to SAP. Mike Lipton, senior director, Supply Chain Solutions Management, at SAP and board member of the Young Heroes Foundation, spent two days showing a film crew firsthand the impact the foundation has made, and explain exactly how SAP has been supporting the cause every step of the way (see the video).

Bushfire Festival

SAP supports Young Heroes not only with software and hardware donations, but also enables orphans to visit the annual Bushfire Festival, a three day music and arts festival that gathers over 20,000 visitors to the heart of Swaziland. Its proceeds go directly to Young Heroes. At next year’s festival, Mike is hoping to have SAP’s support to build a mobile app for festival visitors to learn more about the show and Young Heroes, and make donations online. The video below contains recently recorded impressions from Swaziland´s biggest festival.
