This year’s Oktoberfest will take place in Munich from September 22 to October 7, for the 179th time in its history. The “Wiesn”, as the locals refer to it, will open with the traditional tapping of the beer barrel by the city’s mayor, and the official proclamation “O’zapft is!” (It’s tapped!). More than six million visitors are expected to attend the festivities, including, perhaps, some of your SAP.info editors.

For the lucky SAP.info colleagues based in the Munich office, the Wiesn is a mere 500 meters away. The smell of bratwurst and the sound of traditional brass band music waft through the open windows during the day. You can imagine how difficult it is to concentrate on writing articles! As excitement in the city builds in anticipation of the festival, we thought we’d share a bit of the Wiesn feeling with you, our readers. Wherever you’re located in the world, we hope these apps help you join in the fun.

Users can call up information about the festival tents, beer prices, travel directions, and the expected volume of visitors on a given day. For thrill-seekers who like to ride the bumper cars and giant swings, the app provides a list of all carnival rides and attractions as well as an interactive map of the festival grounds. Plus, users can get up-to-date weather information from the live Webcams. The app costs €0.79 and also contains a Bavarian dictionary, a beer counter (to help you keep track of those Maß), and a blood-alcohol level calculator.
