CSA Moves to SAP Enterprise Portal

CSA International is a provider of product testing and certification services for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas and a variety of other products. Recognized in the United States, Canada and around the world, CSA’s marks appear on billions of products worldwide. CSA International chose SAP Enterprise Portal as part of a key strategic initiative to strengthen communication and collaboration between engineering and customer teams during the product certification process. SAP EP will support CSA’s new release of its customer-facing portal, which allows for the review and exchange of supporting documents required for each certification project.
Clients around the world depend on CSA International to test and certify their products to meet the requirements of all applicable standards. This testing and certification process involves a high volume of communication between a team of CSA engineers, certification specialists and client representatives. CSA recognized the importance of having an efficient tool in place to support communication and collaboration between teams to help customers quickly get their products to market. CSA is utilizing SAP NetWeaver to bring together portal, knowledge management and business intelligence information capabilities.

Efficient document filing and retrieval

CSA is upgrading to the latest version of SAP Enterprise Portal from its original 2001 investment in a previous version of the technology. CSA decided to deploy the enhanced solution due to new available functionality including delegated administration, which solves a myriad of administrative challenges while also reducing total cost of ownership (TCO). With the portal in place, CSA expects to achieve efficient document filing and retrieval and enhanced personalized customer views into critical data.
“We receive approximately 100 new orders each day for product certification,” said John Harrickey, director of IT applications, CSA. “There is a tremendous amount of documentation supporting these orders including a certificate of compliance and test reports, manufacturers’ specifications, schematics and product literature. Plus, regulatory compliance requires that we track that file over the life of the product. Our process needed bolstering in terms of content management control and standardization. We are an integral part of our clients’ product lifecycle. They are dependant on CSA’s approval before they can introduce a qualified product into the marketplace. Therefore, we took this initiative to help shorten the delivery time of those reports and deliver faster approval time. In order to best serve our clients in achieving these objectives, we chose SAP Enterprise Portal.”
