High-grade Steel Works Buderus Continues to Rely On itelligence

SAP consultants began the gradual migration of various business areas in Wetzlar to SAP R/3 using SAP for Mill Products as an ERP system in 2000. After the successful migration from SAP R/2 to SAP R/3 4.6 C in the commercial area, the SAP software then replaced the host-based production planning and quality system. As a result, the company now has a scaleable, company-wide SAP system in the areas of sales, material management, finance and controlling, as well as production planning and management with process-integrated quality management functions. Following the successful production start-up in 2005, Edelstahlwerke Buderus AG is continuing its successful collaboration with itelligence AG. Here, the focus is now on the constant optimization of processes and the implementation of advanced functions, including, for example, document management and archiving.
itelligence AG has been acting as an SAP consultant for Edelstahlwerke Buderus AG for five years. itelligence consultants initially started the migration of SAP R/2 to SAP R/3 for 340 users. The successful conversion of the quality management system to SAP R/3 quickly followed. The most important aims of the introduction of SAP at Buderus include increasing productivity and efficiency by using optimized, integrated business processes, safeguarding investments through the use of market-leading SAP standard software and replacing the mainframe environment.
Developing a uniform process design represented a particular challenge for itelligence AG’s consultants, as the requirements of a wide range of divisions had to be harmonized. Furthermore, the conversion of the data structures in logistics and the introduction of basic data from production planning for calculation purposes also required expert knowledge. Buderus now uses a complex variant configuration of SAP for Mill Products for its various product divisions, ranging from rolled products, with hot/cold strip and semi-finished products, to die-forging, open-die forging, and tool steel.
In manufacturing, additional solutions were also developed for the melting planning and requirements and for rod bar processing that manages stocks below batches. Lutz Holland, IT Manager of Edelstahlwerke Buderus AG said: “itelligence AG is a partner with a profound knowledge of the industry, that not only has very good SAP expertise, but that can also integrate elements that are required by the process but not contained in the SAP standard into the conversion – and in a way that can be planned in terms of budget and time.” Udo Zwiener, Project Manager at itelligence AG: “The smooth production start-up at Buderus confirms our strong market presence in the steel and automobile industry.”
