SAP Drives Co-Innovation in Travel and Transportation Services

Building on the success of the IVN model, customers, partners and SAP will work together to address priority industry needs and business challenges. The IVN aims to design and improve industry-relevant processes within three workstreams: logistics, infrastructure and asset management, and passenger transportation and accommodation. The announcement was made at SAPPHIRE® ’07, SAP’s international customer conference, being held in Atlanta, Georgia, April 22 – 25.
In an industry with companies marked by diversified IT landscapes, the IVN will seek to leverage integrated business applications to help customers adapt to changing business environments and better connect with their customers and business partners. The collaborative network will focus on enabling seamless, end-to-end best practice industry processes that leverage existing investments in SAP and partner solutions with low total cost of ownership for secure implementation and operation.
IVN for travel and transportation services members include customers such as Canadian National Railway Company and partners such as Axon, Capgemini, TATA Consultancy Services, and Telargo.

SAP and partner companies in the IVN aim to further expand their offerings to travel and transportation customers through implementation services, best practices from systems integrators, integrated SAP and partner solutions and new composite applications. For example, IVN members will work together to design integrated, multi-vendor solutions to support end-to-end business processes such as order to cash and high-volume billing. First projects in the field of passenger transportation and accommodation will address end-to-end customer process management from reservations to billing. In the area of infrastructure and asset management, optimizing maintenance processes using mobile and geographic information system (GIS) with radio-frequency identification (RFID) capabilities for real world awareness will be an initial priority. Collaboration on integrating disparate applications through enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) will target logistics service providers’ needs to improve supply chain execution and increase customer satisfaction.
