April 28, 2009. SAP ERP 6.0 Implementation at Müller Fleisch

In less than four months, the Karlsruhe, Germany-based IT service provider ORGA implemented a new system based on SAP ERP 6.0 for Müller Fleisch, using the industry template for the food and beverage industry. Now employees at Müller Fleisch – a slaughterer and meat cutter headquartered in Birkenfeld, Germany – no longer have to work with different financial and controlling systems.

In the first phase, a common technical platform was created for all the companies within the group. This platform is operated at ORGA’s data center. For the financial accounting, controlling, and human resources components, the master data from all the Müller Fleisch companies was consolidated and the processes were standardized. In addition, individual premium wage management was enabled within the framework of SAP ERP Human Capital Management (SAP ERP HCM). The first payroll run for the 654 employees has already been completed – with no errors.

Using a combination of the SAP print program and the document management system, maintenance documents are printed and distributed in a single operation.

April 22, 2009. New DSAG Guideline Available

The German-speaking SAP user group (DSAG) has published a road map for auditing SAP ERP 6.0 systems. The guideline helps internal and external auditors as well as compliance, data and system managers to audit complex system landscapes, including individual SAP applications in financials, controlling, materials management, and sales and distribution.

It aims to uncover risks in compliance and authorization and assists in the auditing of individual SAP modules. Using checklists, experts can ascertain whether the business processes mapped in the system and the SAP authorization concept meet the legal requirements for the compliance of ERP systems.

At a technical level, the guideline deals with auditing system integrity, authorization assignment, and user administration – and also with control instances for securely and consistently importing software changes into production systems using the Transport Management System (TMS). What’s more, the road map provides recommendations and checklists about how data protection requirements can be monitored and observed at the SAP application level. The guideline enables all those involved in the auditing process to create their own auditing catalogs. In addition, it can be used to ensure the compliance of the SAP solution prior to an audit and to set up an efficient internal control system (ICS).

April 15, 2009. SAP ERP at ANSMANN with Steeb as Partner

ANSMANN, southern German manufacturer of mobile energy devices and a global leader in this field, has replaced its heterogeneous IT landscape with SAP ERP. ANSMANN engaged Steeb Anwendungssysteme as the implementation partner, while the goals of the project were to standardize processes throughout the organization and map the company’s complex international logistic processes in a single multilingual system.

In addition to central management and high availability for the SAP system at international locations, the solution’s multilingual capabilities are a key benefit. Enabled for the Unicode character set and with the standardized user interface SAPGUI for Java, it is available in English, German, Chinese, French, and Russian. What’s more, the logistics center in China had to be connected. This was quite a challenge, because stringent Chinese legal requirements had to be met – and it was ultimately mastered using individual modifications.

April 8, 2009. Toothbrush Manufacturer Calls in All for One Midmarket

M+C Schiffer, Europe’s largest toothbrush manufacturer, has chosen IT full service provider All for One Midmarket to redesign its entire ERP software landscape at its site in the German city of Dortmund.

The production plants and methods at M+C Schiffer are highly automated, and the processes are aligned to meet customer needs at short notice. However, a highly heterogeneous system landscape could no longer cater to future requirements, especially as dependency on internal programmers – which is all but unavoidable with homegrown software – had become a stumbling block. M+C Schiffer has tasked All for One Midmarket with implementing SAP Business All-in-One. This will provide around 220 users with a fully integrated enterprise resource planning suite.
