It’s almost too easy to dismiss Open Range Communications as a pipe dream with an impossible business plan. The startup wants to deliver wireless high-speed Internet and voice services to hundreds of unserved and underserved communities across the United States, an ambitious goal – especially in today’s challenging economic environment. But don’t tell that to Chris Edwards, senior vice president of finance for Open Range, who has compelling proof to suggest that this company is here to stay. A lot of people think small communities can never be profitable,” says Edwards. “We want to tear down these boundaries. We want to provide an innovative service that meets a consumer’s needs – in a way that’s both profitable and different from what other providers supply.” Open Range intends to serve more than 500 communities, making its services available to approximately six million people.
