2010 Conference Preview: SUG UKI

The SAP UK & Ireland User Group expects to host more than 1,000 attendees at this year’s event. The annual conference has been extended to two-and-a-half days in order to offer participants more networking time and still provide high quality content in the sessions. This year, the event will focus on innovation and how customers can make the most of their current investment, featuring SAP Co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe as keynote speaker.

A total of 16 forums will cover topics including Business Intelligence and  SAP BusinessObjects, SaaS, Cloud Computing, and emerging technologies. Further sessions will present software for finance, human resources, supply chain management, and upgrades and support. Attendees will have the chance to test-drive the latest technologies from 75 exhibitors and meet one-on-one with SAP experts. In the Senior Executive Forum, CEOs from elite companies will give and receive direct feedback from their peers and SAP.

SAP.info sat together with Craig Dale, Chief Executive of the SAP UK & Ireland User Group, to hear first-hand what this year’s annual conference has to offer.

SAP.info: Tell me about the conference last year. Were you happy with attendance, and what feedback did you receive?

Craig Dale: Overall we were very happy with how the conference went. We had over 900 people on site, counting delegates, speakers, and exhibitors. That made it our largest event ever. And that was in a year when attendance at conferences was dipping, so it was brilliant that we were able to buck the trend. We also got very good feedback from last year’s attendees. We tried to cram too much into two days and we learned that delegates wanted more networking time. We planned this year’s event with that feedback in mind and extended the conference to two-a-half days. This allowed us to increase the networking time the and still give delegates good quality content and value in the sessions. More importantly, we kept the price for delegates exactly the same as last year.

SAP.info: What can delegates expect to see at the 2010 conference?

Craig Dale: We have 85 different breakout sessions running over the two-and-a-half days. We’re kicking off the cloud computing stream with a session on SAP’s hybrid offering, and how customers can leverage their on-premise and on-demand solutions to drive better value and create agility in the business. For the first time, we are offering meet-the-expert sessions. Delegates will be able to have a ten minute one-on-one session with an SAP consultant to discuss their thoughts and problems. And Jim Snabe will be a keynote speaker at the main conference; we are delighted to have him at the event.

SAP.info: What major topics stand out at this year’s event?

Craig Dale: We have tried to balance the program around innovation and extracting more value from what you currently have. With that in mind, we’re creating an emerging technologies stream and we’re running a cloud computing stream. There are sessions on mobility, and Sybase is speaking in our vendor track. At the same time, we have a customer talking about enhancing the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence suite and getting more from what you already have. There is a focus on customer stories. More than 60% of the speakers will be customers talking about their experiences and sharing them with the audience.
