CENIT Supports PLM at Webasto
Stuttgart, Germany-based consulting and software specialist CENIT is assuming system responsibility for the product lifecycle management (PLM) landscape at Webasto-Edscha Cabrio and HS Genion, which are subsidiaries of automotive component supplier Webasto.
CENIT’s tasks include operating the CAD/PDM (computer-aided design/product data management) environment and connected tools, such as multi-CAD data exchange software. The application management services provided by CENIT enable companies to concentrate on their core tasks. Service level agreements have been introduced for the maintenance of the systems.
Brocade Builds on Partnership with Dell
With immediate effect, Brocade’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) dual-port Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) and 8 Gbps Fiber Channel (FC) Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) are available from Dell. With Brocade 815/825 FC HBAs and Brocade 1020 CNAs, companies can deploy an end-to-end storage networking architecture from server to storage.
Both adapters are factory-installed during the Dell server build process, allowing customers to easily select and deploy Brocade technologies and products. Brocade’s ability to deliver non-stop networking solutions is set to drive server and storage virtualization more broadly across the data center.
MHP Presents Business Apps for the iPad and iPhone
At the SAP Automotive Symposium on October 27 and 28 in the German city of Mainz, Porsche service partner Mieschke Hofmann und Partner (MHP) presented two SAP-based apps for mobile requirements planning. Companies can now keep a close eye on their supply chain and identify critical requirements discrepancies at an early stage, tackle them, and document them in an audit-compliant manner.
The apps can be used, for example, to display information such as the demand history and bills of material for the quantities available. What’s more, the apps are adapted to the device on which they run, which means complex material information including additional data is reserved for the iPad only.
OPAL & topsystem: Pick by Voice at Betty Bossi
Specialist IT service provider topsystem is equipping Swiss publisher Betty Bossi with topSPEECH-Lydia software, which enables employees to pick by voice. Each picker uses topsystem’s VOXter language client, as well as a headset and a mobile computer. Swiss-headquartered value-added reseller OPAL Associates stepped in to be coordination and service partner.
Using the Pick by Voice system, paper lists and barcode scanners become things of the past, and the pickers have their hands free to tackle their tasks. The language system integrates directly with SAP solutions. A household name in Switzerland, Betty Bossi is a fictitious cook who has been giving readers cookery tips since the 1960s. The publisher sells cookbooks, kitchen appliances, and other items of the Betty Bossi brand.
Informatica reveals inefficiencies in company networks
In a study by data integration company Informatica Corporation, eight out of 10 IT managers in Europe admitted that unused data and applications were stored on their company networks. The resulting inefficiencies can cost a company more than two million euros every year. On average, a quarter of all existing applications were not used. This mainly applied to companies with more than 1,000 employees.
The timely provision of data and analyses to users was the most problematic issue (according to 97% of those surveyed), while 35% attributed these problems to user accesses. Furthermore, IT resources for tackling the amount of data were seen as inefficient (by 46% of survey participants), while 42% stated that the complexity of the infrastructure was an issue.
Steeb & untersee Implement SAP Business All-in-One for TQ
SAP consultancy untersee and SAP subsidiary Steeb joined forces to implement SAP Business All-in-One at German technology service provider TQ. TQ was looking for an alternative to its old ERP software ifax.OPEN, which was stretched to capacity. It needed a new ERP system that would grow as the company expanded, could be enhanced with additional functions, and could map TQ’s business processes end-to-end. In the second stage of the implementation, the team already succeeded in increasing efficiency in some areas – for example, by 50% for accounting transactions between headquarters and branch offices.
