The Passeig de Gràcia is one of Barcelona’s most exclusive addresses. Here, you will find two of the city’s most impressive buildings: Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Milà and Casa Batllò. The junction with the wide Avenida Diagonal, one of Barcelona’s main avenues, is bustling with business people. You can sense the economic vibrancy of Spain’s second-largest city.
Among those heading for work is Francesc Muñoz Molina. He usually travels by scooter to beat the Barcelona traffic. Muñoz is CIO of the Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira law firm, headquartered in the heart of city. Established in 1917, Cuatrecasas has become one of the most important law firms in Spain and Portugal.
Many of its clients are components of the Spanish stock market index while others are multinational corporations. Its approximately 1,000 lawyers are based in 23 locations across eight countries.
“As a computer specialist in a firm of lawyers, I appreciate the fact that the practice recognizes the importance of IT,” says Muñoz. “When I started at Cuatrecasas in 1998, I thought that lawyers didn’t need complex software. But the practice, as a service enterprise, had a sophisticated IT landscape, comprising everything from ERP to document management.”
