We don’t need to look into a crystal ball to find out which new SAP products are slated to appear in 2011. We all know that major trade fairs and exhibitions such as CeBIT, SAPPHIRE, and SAP TechEd provide us with information about planned releases. But the smaller events shouldn’t be underestimated, either. For example, Peter Lorenz, executive vice president of Small and Midsize Enterprises (SME) at SAP, not only demonstrated SAP Business ByDesign on the iPhone to a select audience, but also presented a road map for software for the midmarket.
From enterprise content management systems and ERP software, through customer relationship management and on-demand solutions: Read on to find out what awaits you in 2011.
- Enhancement package 1 for SAP CRM and enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0
- Business intelligence software
- On-demand software
- Enterprise content managment systems
EHP 1 for SAP CRM 7.0 and EHP5 for SAP ERP 6.0
SAP introduced its enhancement packages to take the place of expensive upgrades. Enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 was scheduled to appear in 2010, but its launch was delayed. As SAP Co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe stressed at the DSAG Annual Congress 2010, good quality is more important than getting a product to market hastily. It remains to be seen whether and when enhancement package 5 will become available for all customers in 2011. It is currently in the ramp-up phase and being tested by a small number of users.
Enhancement package 5 offers numerous business intelligence functions and supports compliance regulations as well as Apple’s Safari browser. Also integrated are SAP NetWeaver Business Client 3.0 and Web Dynpro ABAP Page Builder, which can be used to develop user interfaces. What’s more, enhancement package 5 offers additional functions for the manufacturing industry.
An enhancement package is also planned for SAP CRM 7.0. Enhancement package 1 will support Facebook and Twitter. Thanks to three social media packages, it will be possible in the future to evaluate and manage marketing campaigns run via social networks. Read more here.
Business intelligence software
The SAP BusinessObjects product portfolio comprises BI software such as SAP Crystal Reports, SAP Crystal Presentation Design, and SAP BusinessObjects Explorer. SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence 4.0 was already unveiled at SAP TechEd 2010 in Berlin, Germany, last year. In the individual presentations, experts also gave an insight into future releases. If you’re interested in finding out what’s in the pipeline for SAP BusinessObjects enterprise performance management (EPM) solutions, SAP BusinessObjects Strategy Management, or SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation, read on here.
On-demand software – slated to appear in 2011
At SAPPHIRE NOW 2010, SAP Co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe revealed the first screenshots of SAP Sales onDemand. And SAP COO Gerhard Oswald also talked about new on-demand software at the DSAG Annual Congress in the fall. This means SAP will produce more software – in addition to SAP Carbon Impact OnDemand – that is operated using an Internet browser. The slides mentioned names such as SAP Sourcing OnDemand and SAP Expense Management.
Feature pack 2.6 for the midmarket software SAP Business ByDesign is also expected to appear this year.
Road map for enterprise content management systems
Enterprise content management (ECM) systems store, archive, and manage documents and files. New products and road maps were presented at the OpenText Content Days 2010, held in May in Munich, Germany. In 2011, version 10 of SAP Extended ECM by OpenText is set to become available. It will support SAP Records Management, as well as further languages. What’s more, the user interface has been improved. Version 10 of SAP Archiving by OpenText will support cloud computing functions and full text searches. SAP Invoice Management by OpenText (version 7.0) will enable companies to map e-invoices. Furthermore, the application can be integrated with SAP Supplier Relationship Management (SAP SRM). SAP Employee Information Management by OpenText 4.0 is slated to appear in the fourth quarter of 2011. Full text searches will be integrated with the new release.
