As the business world awaits SAP STORE with bated breath, news has arrived from Apple’s own App Store. This past June witnessed the debut of a number of apps that leverage the strengths of Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP) and represent advancements in the mobility of business software.

In this article, we’ll show you these new apps – as well as others in the pipeline – and tell you about some recently released updates.

New apps for iPhone and iPad:

SAP Retail Execution mobile

SAP Retail Execution mobile offers enhanced SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) functions that help companies register and manage their customers’ shop visits. This in turn aids in increasing sales and provides those responsible for promotions and merchandise with the information they need. More specifically, the app’s functional scope includes:

  • Retail visit management: Visualizes the progression of customer visits, comments, and attachments (such as photos and videos)
  • Surveys and audits to support merchandise activities
  • Account management, including customer information
  • Customer contact management
  • Product management, including search and viewing product lists
  • Offline support, which enables sales staff to continue working and synchronizes data automatically as soon as a connection is available
  • Languages: English, German
  • System requirements: iOS 4.2 or later
  • Device: iPhone

SAP Commissions Check

With SAP Commissions Check, sales employees – including those who work in the field – can view the commission payments they are due and compare summaries of their performance and targets, achieved and overall goals, and paid and outstanding invoices. These summaries can be comprehensive or limited to a specific month. In addition, an alarm function makes sure you won’t miss any changes made to invoices or sales orders.

SAP Field Service

SAP Field Service is another app that enhances the use of SAP CRM and makes it easier for service technicians to go about their work by means of the following functions:

  • Alerts: A push function informs service technicians of new tasks and enables them to accept or reject jobs in real time.
  • Debriefing, which takes place directly at the point of service to avoid data errors
  • Google Maps integration aids in locating and finding your way to current jobs
  • Offline support, which makes data constantly accessible and synchronizes it automatically as soon as a connection is available
  • Dashboards for visualizing and monitoring the status of service orders in real time

Note: While SAP Field Service is currently only available directly from SAP, it is likely to appear soon on the App Store.

SAP Business ByDesign Dashboard

This app makes your analytical data accessible on iPad based on the on-demand solution SAP Business ByDesign. With it, you can rearrange reports – known as “worksheets” in the app – and make notes and comments, while the e-mail and dictation functions included facilitate collaboration with your coworkers. Comparison tools make it easy to spot changes, and you can quickly implement automatic adjustments based on defined threshold values. To gain access to the full version of the app, you’ll need a license for SAP Business ByDesign (feature pack 2.6).

SAP BusinessObjects Mobile

SAP BusinessObjects Mobile gives you access to BI reports and real-time data. The content matches that of the desktop version of SAP BusinessObjects Explorer, but is optimized for iPad. The app enables you to make decisions based on the latest information, and with detailed knowledge of customers and products, you’ll be able to achieve increases in sales. SAP BusinessObjects Mobile makes BI content and new visualizations immediately accessible, and supports both on- and offline use. It’s also easy to share your findings with others. For more detailed analyses, we recommend SAP BusinessObjects Explorer, a mobile version of which is also available.

Impending arrivals

SAP has also announced numerous apps that are set to appear soon. Most advanced among them is perhaps SAP EAM Work Order, another app designed for service technicians that will aid in completing jobs and maintaining technical objects. It will also give users the ability to call up and modify information on orders and business partners.

The app will also include functions for reporting time worked and materials consumed, with the latter being factored into inventory management at the corresponding warehouse. Meanwhile, list, calendar, and map views will provide different ways to visualize data while displaying the locations, characteristics, and related documentation on objects requiring maintenance. Serving as the basis for SAP EAM Work Order is Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP).

Upgrades for SAP apps

Finally, let’s take a look at the latest updates released for SAP’s available apps. Unless otherwise indicated, these versions are for iPhone; if you’re not yet familiar with the apps and their functions, take a look at the articles “Free Packages: SAP Apps” and “Update on SAP Apps.”

Sybase Mobile Workflow for SAP Business Suite, Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM: Formerly included in a single program, these apps now stand alone for iPhone and iPad. Both make SAP CRM data accessible to sales employees on the go.

SAP Business One 1.2.0: The latest version of this mobile app checks user authorizations at the functional level and sorts inventory information by warehouse. It also makes it possible to display user-defined fields in master data and transactions. Also available for iPad.

SAP StreamWork 2.0: New feeds keep you abreast of the latest activities and tell you which of your contacts are currently online. In addition to viewing your own status updates and those of other users, you can follow others and see who’s following you, just like on Twitter.

SAP BusinessObjects Explorer 4.0.2: Along with optimized search functions, this app now includes offline support for the favorites you’ve saved. Meanwhile, SAP has addressed errors in the augmented reality version and added a new user interface. Available for iPhone and iPad.

SAP EcoHub 1.0.1: The latest update to this app offers improved performance, incorporates a Twitter timeline, and eliminates a number of minor bugs.
