As a statutory health insurance provider, AOK maintains massive amounts of data on 24 million insurants who generate over 370 million outpatient treament cases and 1.5 billion diagnoses.
With SAP HANA, AOK plans to conduct real-time analyses to identify particular illness patterns among its 12 regional health insurance funds and to run simulations. The findings will then be used to create and deliver individualized, preventative care programs.
This early detection system will not only greatly benefit at-risk patients, such as those susceptible to diabetes or heart failure, but it will also help prevent unnecessary, expensive treatments leading to significant cost reductions.
The SAP HANA platform will install on top of AOK’s existing infrastructure. In the near future, the SAP HANA database will replace the traditional SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse database. This is the biggest SAP HANA deal to date.
