Looking Ahead to 2012

It’s time again for those New Year’s resolutions, but we don’t want to make any empty promises for 2012. Over the past months, the SAP.info editorial team closely monitored what’s been going on at events and exhibitions – and paid special attention to the road maps.

At the start of 2012, a new version of SAP Business One is slated to be launched. Release 8.82 will provide many enhancements and assistants. Revamped dashboards and business intelligence functions thanks to the integration of SAP Crystal Reports are also included. With SAP Business One 8.82, CRM employees will have access to additional functions for campaign management. With version 9.0, SAP Business One should run on SAP HANA. Furthermore, additional applications for SAP HANA are in the pipeline for 2012.

In terms of on-demand software, there will also be more new products in the upcoming year. In mid-2012, feature pack 3.5 will bring new functions for SAP Business ByDesign. The software will support Android-based and Windows smartphones. With the new release, you’ll even be able to integrate your own brand image into the user interface.

Another solution from SAP’s OnDemand range will hit the market in 2012 in the form of SAP Career OnDemand. This HR software includes functions for talent management. Similar to Facebook, the idea is that employees link up and exchange messages.

Enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 spent almost an entire year at the ramp-up stage before it became officially and generally available in May. At SAP TechEd in Madrid in November, the sixth enhancement package for SAP ERP 6.0 was announced. We’re looking forward to finding out what innovations will be included in this enhancement package and we’ll let you know as soon as we discover more details.

For SAP Business Suite, at least, the future looks clear: At the Annual Congress of the German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG), Jim Hagemann Snabe announced a series of small enhancement packages. Every quarter, a mini enhancement is set to be released. Customers can decide for themselves which functions to activate.

However, the most important highlight that we can expect in 2012 is the new operating system Windows 8. The new version will support multitouch gestures for touchscreens. A dedicated app store is also planned. Read all about the new functions here.
