- Realize there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Be prepared to invest significant research and thinking to determine the ideal solution that fits your company’s needs.
- Accept a mixed bring your own device (BYOD) and corporate-liable (CL) workplace. Find mobile enterprise management solutions able to securely manage different operating systems, apps, content, and liability schemes.
- Look for innovation with flexibility. Adopt products and service models that not only meet your company’s unique requirements, but also tap existing internal resources. The ideal platform offers the ability to build a range of application types and architectures whether native, hybrid, or web-based. There should be streamlined integration with a variety of back-end systems, as well as next-generation tooling on the front end to create and securely deploy compelling, user-friendly applications.
- Seek the optimal balance between custom and out-of-the-box. Many companies choose prepackaged mobile applications that offer 80% of the functionality needed with the ability to customize the rest.
- Ensure it’s easy to configure, deploy, and manage applications after deployment. Increasingly popular are customizable mobile enterprise application stores, synchronized content sharing, and integrated mobile application management offerings.

The Challenge: As the seventh-largest coal producer in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, PBS Coals realized that mobilization of its knowledge workers was crucial for real-time access to business-critical exploration, manufacturing, and sales information across mining operations.
