The countdown to next year’s Solheim Cup has already begun in the Rhine-Neckar region.
This major women’s sporting event, which is on a par with the men’s Ryder Cup, will be held in Germany in 2015 for the first time in its 25-year history. A special series of charity activities taking place this week is designed to get everyone in the mood for one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
The St. Leon-Rot Golf Club wants to get as many people as possible fired up with enthusiasm to attend the Solheim Cup in St. Leon Rot in 2015. As the official global technology partner to the Solheim Cup, SAP is contributing its own core expertise in sporting technology to bring a new digital experience to the world of golf.
SAP mobile app for the Solheim Cup
An official fan-engagement app developed by SAP and powered by the SAP HANA Cloud Platform will play a key role in bringing the event organizer’s tournament motto, “Digital Solheim Cup,” to life.
Available for download at the Apple and Google Play stores free of charge as of September 13, the app offers instant tournament information and news updates, as well as a wealth of interactive features ― including an exciting quiz in which you can sign up and pit your wits against digital opponents.
The app will be updated with new functions over the next 12 months, giving both seasoned and novice golf fans a chance to experience this fascinating sport in a completely new way that takes them right to the heart of the action.
Charity golf with Franz Beckenbauer and Steffi Graf
From September 13-16, fans can find out more about the many different facets of golf during the Charity Promotion Event. For two days, Heidelberg’s Karlsplatz will host a unique golf experience: Visitors will get the chance to grab a golf club and have their swing-speed measured, play a round of mini golf roulette, urban golf, SNAG golf, or soccer golf, and win prizes.
The Old Bridge (Alte Brücke) in Heidelberg is the venue for the launch of a 24-hour charity donation marathon that will begin with the Golden Charity Shot. On Monday, September 15, professional golfers such as SAP brand ambassador Paula Creamer will join prestigious guests, among them Dietmar Hopp, soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer, and Germany’s best-known female tennis player, Steffi Graf, on the bridge to try and hit a floating target on the River Neckar.
Professionals face off in Charity Show Match
The main sporting highlight will be the Charity Show Match at St. Leon Golf Club on September 16.
Professional golfers Carin Koch, Caroline Masson, the team captain of the Solheim Cup 2015 Team USA Juli Inkster, and SAP brand Ambassador Paula Creamer will join US Open winner and SAP brand ambassador Martin Kaymer to showcase their skills as they compete in the Solheim Driving Range Challenge event. This will be followed by the Charity Show Match, in which the teams will collect as many points as possible to turn into donations for charity. All proceeds from the event will go to worthy causes.
