The ICC runs simple with SAP Business One and cricket fans get closer to the sport than ever before.
Cricket may still follow many traditions – cricket whites, yelling “HOWZAT!” and sledging – but it’s not all old school, as SAP and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have teamed up to make this year’s ICC World Cup “the most digitally advanced in ICC Cricket World Cup history” through the power of SAP Business One, SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SAP Lumira.
Approximately 1 million fans will attend the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, not to mention the 1 billion people who will be watching the match broadcasts, making it one of the largest sporting events in the world. SAP and the ICC are working together to make this huge event even better. Using SAP HANA Cloud Platform and SAP Lumira software, fans will be provided with all the data, facts, and statistics they need at the touch of a button.
The official app has already received 3 million downloads and according to David Richardson, the chief executive officer at ICC, the website makes all the tournament details “accessible, informative, and engaging” for cricket fans across the world using any device. He goes on to say that due to SAP, fans now have “unprecedented access” to the World Cup action, and of course, their favorite players. Not only is the information available, but its available quickly – the fastest live scores across the internet are available on The Match Centre, presented by SAP.
However, it wouldn’t be right for such a traditional sport to forget its roots, and that’s why SAP is also providing historical statistics to the fans. This not only provides insight into the past 40 years of the ICC Cricket World Cup, but fans can also compare players past and present to give a really clear picture of the best ever bowlers and batsmen in ICC Cricket World Cup history.

SAP is not only working with the fans, but also with the ICC to help them to run simple. All the financial management for the tournament is being run on SAP Business One, due to its simplicity, cost efficiency, and how quickly it can be implemented – in this case it took only six and a half weeks. It was also important for the ICC to choose a system flexible enough to report across varying budget levels and three different currencies – Australia, New Zealand and U.S. dollar.
Luke Spano, the financial controller for the World Cup event, describes SAP Business One as their “single source of truth.” He explains that having access to real-time data and insight for a tournament such as this is crucial for accurate on-the-spot decision making and that having all the data in one location enables ICC to fulfil all their reporting needs. According to Spano, this not only adds “real business value to the entire organization,” but also allows the team to focus on the real-time analysis and insights, which means that everything runs smoothly.
