Curious about SAP’s vision and investments in Internet of Things (IoT)? For the next 10 days, we’ll bring you the latest and  best of IoT news from SAP.

Let’s start with a refresher on why Internet of Things (IoT) matters.

More than 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020. Not just smartphones and tablets, but almost anything with a sensor on it – coffee makers, cars, cattle, machines in production plants, jet engines, oil drills, wearable devices, and more. This network is called the Internet of Things (IoT). These “things” talk to each other, collect streaming data and insights, and can help people decide about the best way to use them in real time.

People use sensors every day to improve their lives – to track their activity level, heat their homes more efficiently and find parking more quickly and sustainably.

But the vexing question for businesses around the world is what can we do with all that data? How do we use it for better business outcomes and to advance our efforts to digitize? A recent study found that 81 percent of business executives believe that successful adoption of industrial IoT is critical to their company’s future success, but only 25 percent have a clear industrial IoT strategy.*

SAP has the deep industry and business process expertise, powerful SAP HANA platform and network strength to transform the world of things into a world of insights, action, and outcomes for customers.

In the 10 Days of IoT series, compelling stories and news will show how SAP innovation is making IoT meaningful for organizations around the world, across many industries. All this is leading up to an exciting IoT announcement and event next week for customers, press, and analysts, where we will unveil our vision and additional commitment to IoT, and show one of the world’s leading examples of IoT in action. In the meantime, stay tuned and watch this space.
