Kicking off the year in style, SAP Sports One has won the iF Design Gold Award 2017 and a special mention in the German Design Award 2017.

SAP Sports One, the cloud-based solution for athletics, took home the iF Gold Awards 2017. The iF label is renowned worldwide for its outstanding achievements in product design.

Last week, the winners of this year’s awards were officially announced over the course of the iF Design Award Night, which was held at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany. SAP Sports One was one of 75 gold award winners chosen from among 5,575 entries in the “Apps/Software” category.

“SAP Sports One was developed in close collaboration with Bundesliga soccer clubs, sports associations, other related organizations, and our own co-innovation customers. This has given us real-world insights into the daily work of coaches, scouts, match analysts, and players and helped us understand their specific needs,” explains Fadi Naoum, senior vice president and head of Sports & Entertainment at SAP. “More than anything else, we see this award as an affirmation of the exceptional work our SAP Sports One Innovation Team has done, our successful cooperation with the team under Stefan Wagner [global general manager for Sports & Entertainment], and everyone else who made this win possible.”

The iF Design Award has been a globally recognized symbol of outstanding design for over 60 years. Its accolades are presented once each year in Hanover by iF International Forum Design GmbH, Germany’s oldest independent design institution. SAP Sports One’s own design excellence won the competition’s jury of international experts over thanks to its innovative approach to communication.

SAP Sports One

SAP Sports One is the first sports-specific solution that runs on SAP Cloud Platform. It offers a unique, uniform environment for efficiently managing individual teams and players and obtaining analytical insights on how to improve their performance. SAP Sports One has already been put into use by the German Football Association (DFB)FC Bayern Munich, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Hertha BSC, Philadelphia Union, and Mexican soccer clubs including  Xolos de Tijuana. In addition to soccer, it is available for ice hockey and basketball.

“Data like this can obviously be a tremendous help, especially when it has that cool, modern feel and you can access it in no time,” points out Oliver Bierhoff, manager of Germany’s national soccer team.

“The solution’s benefits are easy to describe: Since we have a constant eye on all of our data and test results, we’re able to draw the right conclusions and react more quickly,” adds Jan Koziak, an athletic trainer for German ice hockey club Adler Mannheim.

“Our focus on co-innovation and innovative design aided us in creating a cloud product that offers our users an engaging product experience on a wide range of devices,” Naoum continues. “SAP Sports One addresses the integration issue by covering and interconnecting all the different areas of a soccer club, from the management board and coaching staff to youth-related efforts, talent scouting, match analysis, and training schedules for players.”

In February, SAP Sports One had already garnered a special mention for its excellent product design in the German Design Award 2017 in the categories “Excellent Communications Design” and “Interactive UX.”

The German Design Award honors the manufacturers and creative minds behind innovative products and projects that are on the cutting edge of design in Germany and around the world. This year’s awards ceremony was held on February 10 in Frankfurt am Main.
