The audience at SAP TechEd in Barcelona gave one of their biggest cheers during Björn Goerke’s keynote when he officially announced the SAP Community updates.
Afterwards, I caught up on the show floor with Thomas Grassl, vice president and global head of Developer Relations and Marketing at SAP, who walked me through what’s new and exciting on the SAP Community in this video interview.
“Our goal is to enable the broader SAP ecosystem to easily collaborate and engage around our solutions,” said Grassl. “The SAP Community is the vehicle to make our partners and customers successful. We want to provide the right platform for them to share ideas about new directions they’re taking and find the information they need to spark innovation.”
Navigating Complex Enterprises
More than anything, this reboot reflects SAP’s commitment to openness. The updated Q&A section is designed to give developers and business users answers to real-world challenges. The revamped home page immediately surfaces the latest relevant content up front. The new topic areas allow like-minded people to get together with each other as well as SAP experts. Updates to the SAP Community profile make it easier for the approximately 270,000 people who visit the site each day to share what they’re working on and who they’re connected with.
“There is a ton of valuable information on the SAP Community, and we’re making it easy to find what’s most important to them and people with similar interests, and not just from SAP experts,” said Grassl. “This really is the importance of a community. Everything doesn’t just come from SAP. You can get this knowledge from other partners and customers who face similar challenges. We’ve always had this value-add in the community, and now we’re strengthening it more.”
Grassl said the SAP Community’s 2.8 million users can expect even more in the future. As Goerke mentioned at SAP TechEd, archived content is being restored. Looking ahead, Grassl envisioned the SAP Community as “completely open, eventually connecting people online, as well as through in-person events. This is a journey. As we listen to people who are using the community, we’ll continue investing in more updates to make this a vibrant space for everyone.”
