In 2018, TSG Hoffenheim faced Europe’s top clubs for the first time at the highest level of football. Accompanying the club on this spectacular journey was the SAP superfan, a fan who had loyally, passionately, and voluntarily assisted and supported TSG for a number of years.

In a joint decision made in conjunction with the club’s long-standing partner and main sponsor SAP, TSG chose Trudel Bamberger, a very special figure in club’s history from the very beginning. The superfan from Hoffenheim is especially valued for her voluntary work.

Trudel has been a TSG fan since the club played in the lower divisions, witnessing the club’s rise to the top flight as well as the best season in its history, which culminated in qualification for the Champions League. She has been a volunteer at TSG since 2003 and never misses a home or away match. Trudel works as a steward at under-19 and under-23 fixtures and is always full of energy, even when she is sorting out tickets for TSG fans in Liverpool at 4.30 in the morning.

The SAP superfan is one of the most familiar faces at the club, working mostly in the background alongside numerous other helpers. But it is precisely these people who make TSG the club it is. That is why SAP and TSG once again got together to launch a project aimed at recognizing voluntary work in sport. Trudel Bamberger was rewarded as an SAP superfan with an unforgettable trip to Manchester to watch a Champions League match.

“I have traveled to many TSG away matches, but this trip to Manchester is something very special for me,” said a thrilled Trudel Bamberger after being surprised by Mike Diehl, TSG Hoffenheim’s stadium announcer. “I never thought I would be named a superfan and given the opportunity to see my club up-close for three days, courtesy of SAP.”

During the special trip, Trudel was not only accompanied by the camera at the match. SAP was also there to witness everything she experienced in the build-up to the match in Manchester. She rubbed shoulders with her idols on the TSG team plane during the flight to one of the strongholds of English football.

Trudel enjoyed various cultural and sporting highlights on the trip, including a comprehensive guided tour of the city, a culinary tour, an exclusive look behind the scenes of Manchester City’s training ground and the opportunity to watch TSG Hoffenheim’s final training session. The icing on the cake was the match between Manchester City and TSG Hoffenheim on December 12, which she was able to watch from the best seats in the Etihad Stadium.

“Witnessing a TSG Hoffenheim match in the Etihad Stadium was an unbelievable experience. It was an absolute dream to cheer on my TSG and share in the excitement of this gripping match until the last minute. TSG will continue to fight and come back even stronger, I am certain of that,” said a happy Trudel Bamberger after the final whistle, despite the 2:1 victory for Manchester City.

The SAP superfan is a special project resulting from the collaboration of TSG and SAP, who have created a unique experience for a unique fan.
