Despite a packed schedule, SAP Ambassador and Olympic athlete Ingrid Klimke was in Walldorf on February 2 for the third SAP Equestrian Day at the Reit- und Rennverein Walldorf (RRV), within view of SAP’s global headquarters.
Around 350 spectators– both SAP colleagues and guests from the region – eagerly awaited Klimke’s arrival onsite. Neither the early hour nor the freezing cold dissuaded the avid fans from closely paying attention to the entire clinic until the very last minute. Many used the opportunity to ask questions and snatch a selfie with Klimke during the break.
True to the motto “Learning from the Best,” a group of 12 riders — comprised of SAP colleagues, finalists of a social media call, and members of RRV — had the privilege of getting an exclusive training session from their idol. Based on an individual video introduction and thoroughly chosen by a team of experts including Klimke, these equestrians brought their horses along for the open training sessions and received many invaluable tips from the German “Riding Master.”
During all sessions, Klimke paid close attention to the fine details that lead to good and successful riding: correct and soft aids, structured exercises, proper fit of the equipment, and – most importantly – sensitive and fair communication with the horses, including a lot of positive feedback.
Like last year, the complete clinic was filmed and streamed live by partner ClipMyHorse. More than 25,500 viewers and many positive comments underlined the significant interest in this format. Live comments came in from all across Germany, as well as from the UK, U.S., and Australia.
A highlight on the sideline was a demo stand for Germany’s first “Eventing Simulator,” the latest innovation project between SAP and RRV to advance equestrian training and provide new ways of data analyses. From July onwards, interested riders will be able to obtain tailor-made lessons for beginners and professionals in dressage, showjumping, and cross-country jumping.
Furthermore, guests were able to experience the latest equestrian technology with demos from the SAP Equestrian team. Klimke’s recent helmet camera ride at CHIO Aachen enriched with SAP Equestrian Analytics tracking data captured the attention, as well as the new SAP Equestrian Showroom, highlighting live competition data and all types of interesting stats and predictions.
Last but not least, the company’s new equestrian charity ambassador “SAP Berry” had his first official appearance, advocating for Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony Organization to help advance progress in cancer research and to facilitate “Willberry Wishes” for terminally ill people.
The event concluded with smiling faces all around as excited riders and spectators left reliving the day in discussion with their peers, and with a happy crew that has already started the planning for 2020.
A result of terrific teamwork, a big “thank you” goes out to the amazing members of the RRV, the many dedicated SAP supporters, ClipMyHorse, and – of course – our one-in-a-million SAP Ambassador Ingrid Klimke, who keeps everybody spellbound with her personality, insights, and wisdom.
We hope to see you again next year for the fourth SAP Equestrian Day!
