SAP to Co-Innovate with Discovery Health to Transform Health Insurance Businesses into Intelligent Healthcare Enterprises

WALLDORF — SAP and Discovery Health, a leading and innovative South African medical insurance administrator, are partnering to combine data-driven insights, insurance and healthcare products with a customer-centric engagement platform to enable health insurance businesses to transform into intelligent healthcare enterprises, SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) announced today.

The partnership aims to combine Discovery Health’s industry experience and best-in-class healthcare systems platform with SAP’s world-leading software expertise to yield a unique, cutting-edge, all-inclusive health insurance solution.

With rising inflation and the digitalization of health, health insurers are looking to transform their systems and operations to realize the benefits of digital and analytics platforms and enhance user experiences. Health insurers are seeking new ways to cut costs, improve customer-centricity and develop more innovative products. SAP is collaborating with Discovery Health to deliver a solution for these needs.

“This partnership with SAP combines the best of our expertise and experience in building a world-class health insurance business with the technology and systems to make it scalable,” Discovery Health CEO Dr. Jonathan Broomberg said. “Through this new platform, we see significant opportunity for widespread adoption of our shared value model: insurer costs can be reduced while innovation thrives, providing policy holders with a more personalized healthcare journey and better healthcare outcomes. Ultimately, society can benefit from an improved healthcare system and healthier communities.”

Combining Discovery’s shared value insurance approach and health insurance expertise with the capabilities of SAP S/4HANA, the new offering will provide a fully integrated, data-driven platform. Core elements of the platform will include a rich data layer, a best-in-class insurance offering (including benefits management, claims processing and policy administration, disease management, care coordination, and healthcare and wellness elements customized for the user), and omnichannel customer engagement to put consumers at the heart of the platform. With this technology, SAP and Discovery Health aim to revolutionize the health insurance industry and ultimately improve the quality of healthcare worldwide.
