Ahead of SuccessConnect in Las Vegas, we sat down with Wendy Belling, human resources (HR) manager at Boston Scientific, to get some tips and tricks on getting the most out of the event experience.
Belling has been attending the conference since 2012, so has plenty of insight that can benefit first-time attendees as well as SuccessConnect pros.
Q: If you could describe SuccessConnect in three words, what would they be?
A: Insightful. Networking. Valuable.
Tell us more about networking. How have the connections at SuccessConnect impacted your work?
It gave me the opportunity to meet with different teams in person, which is valuable. It allowed me to take part in product advisory boards, meet with product and customer support teams to share challenges, and gain insights into SAP SuccessFactors solutions. It’s all about building a relationship between our organizations.
What are you most looking forward to at SuccessConnect in Las Vegas this year?
Looking at how SAP is utilizing user experience to drive future technology.
SAP is offering more than 200 breakout sessions this year. What are you looking to learn from this year’s program?
I’m having a hard time narrowing them down because I want to go to everything! I typically meet with my colleagues who are going to the conference and we review the sessions together. Then we coordinate and decide who is going where so we can maximize the number of sessions that we can attend.
SAP puts the employee experience at the heart of what we do. What does this mean to you?
It means prioritizing and looking for what brings value to my users or customers, which in this case are the employees at Boston Scientific. It means using technology to help them achieve their goals and to make their world simpler, easier, and more efficient.
We have many new attendees at the show. Any advice for first-time attendees?
Plan out in advance. The first time I went I thought I’d figure it out as I go, and I was so lost! Make time to meet and talk to other users. Take a break from sessions and spend time in areas where people are congregating as you can learn so much from other users. That’s one of the biggest benefits of attending a conference like this –the sessions are great, but ’s the people you meet who are doing the same thing you’re doing can really make a difference and help you down the line. (And stay out of the casino!)
What do you do with all the learnings once you get back to the office?
We share what we’ve learned, what’s new, and what’s changing, and present it to our product owners. That influences how we develop our internal road map, and it helps us to prioritize the areas we need to improve with the SAP SuccessFactors software suite.
Join us at SuccessConnect in Las Vegas from September 16 to 18 and check out more than 40 sessions at the show through which you can earn professional development credits via our partnership with Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). See you soon in Las Vegas!
