Johannesburg — SAP (NYSE: SAP) announced the appointment of Oliver Bussmann as chief information officer (CIO), effective 1 September 2009.
Bussmann will report directly to SAP Executive Board member Erwin Gunst and will be responsible for SAP’s cross-departmental IT function, and support the company’s strategic objectives.

The service-oriented architecture of SAP’s IT platform provides the perfect foundation to constantly expanding this capability.
Bussmann has a proven track record in his career spanning nearly 20 years in IT management. Most recently, he was Regional CIO of Allianz for North America and Mexico (NAFTA). His prior roles include positions in the Allianz Group in Germany and the United States, as well as at Deutsche Bank. He began his career at IBM in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was responsible for the retail banking division.
As CIO of SAP, Bussmann will be based at the company’s headquarters in Walldorf. Bussmann holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Muenster, Germany, and is a member of the BITS advisory council, a not-for-profit financial service industry consortium made up of 100 of the largest financial institutions in the US, since 2007.
