SAP hosts World Childhood Foundation gala dinner with Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine of Sweden

Cape TownYesterday, SAP hosted a gala dinner to raise funds for the World Childhood Foundation (WCF), which was founded by Queen Silvia of Sweden in 1999, and aims to reach out to children at risk around the world. Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who is visiting South Africa as part of her work with the Foundation, was the honorary guest at the dinner.

The WCF currently supports over 115 programmes in 14 countries. SAP donated R200 000 towards its cause, and the company’s customers and partners, including Old Mutual, Engen Oil and Hasso Plattner Ventures Africa, have contributed an additional R90 000.

Antonia Ashton, Global Vice-President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Employee Communication at SAP, said: “As a global information technology leader with over 100 000 customers in 120 countries worldwide, SAP recognises and embraces its responsibility to contribute actively to society.

“Not only does SAP enable global business by providing sustainable software products and solutions; we are also working hard at leading by example within our organisation itself. We believe the private sector plays a vital role in helping create a level playing-field by contributing towards an environment that embraces technology, innovation and, last but not least, education.

“It is important for us to nurture and educate our children as they are our future, and we do this through investing in education and technology that ensures broad and equal participation in the global economy,” continues Ashton.

Anna de Geer, Deputy Secretary General of the World Childhood Foundation, added: “The World Childhood Foundation is very proud to have SAP as a co-founder. Without companies such as SAP, who dedicate themselves to making a real difference, the foundation would not be able to continue its valuable work.”

All funds raised from the gala event were donated to WCF.
