NAIROBI, Kenya — Pharmaceutical Company DAWA Limited has received a shot in the arm of its organisational efficiency, following the signing of an ERP (enterprise resource planning) software agreement with SAP Africa earlier this year.
The East African firm, Dawa Limited manufactures a wide range of quality as well as affordable healthcare products at a facility in Nairobi, Kenya for both human and veterinary use. For more than 10 years, Dawa limited has delivered trusted medicines (180+ medicines) that meet real needs of the customers & consumers. The implementation of SAP ERP solution is significantly assisting to achieve company’s vision to provide high quality & affordable medicines across the Kenyan and other African markets.
“By using SAP’s solutions, we are finally able to standardise our operating procedures and tightly integrate functionality in facets such as production planning, inventory control, payroll, sales and distribution” said Dr. Jitendra Rishi, Technical Director, DAWA Limited.
According to Rishi the transformation that occurred since the implementation of SAP software has been tremendous. The Sales and Distribution module for instance helped to improve order processing and deliveries to customers, whilst the HR module enables optimized utilization of manpower for various operations.
Thanks to SAP’s ERP Production Planning and Material Management modules, we have been able to reduce our stock holding to 5% since implementation began in April, by using our production cycle as a basis, he said.
Other crucial benefits unlocked by the SAP ERP solutions include achieving end-to-end traceability of materials and dramatically improving the speed of calculating production cost. Previously, DAWA took around 3-6 weeks to value the internal cost of materials and production for profitability and management accounting due to the complexity involved in this process. Now product cost can be done online through proper allocation of cost parameters for every batch.
Andrew Waititu, Managing Director at SAP East Africa says: “SAP’s continued investment in the East and Central African region is paying dividends in the coming aboard of customers such as DAWA Limited – our first pharmaceutical client in East & Central Africa.”
“Our ERP software enables SMEs to streamline and optimise their operating processes across a broad range of divisions including procurement, manufacturing, sales, finance, and HR to deliver a significant boost to its productivity, competitiveness, and ultimately – its bottom line,” concludes Waititu.
