Life Healthcare Simplifies Business with SAP Solution

Hospital group evolves ERP system to meet demands of a modern healthcare environment enabling ambitious expansion programme

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – The healthcare sector is under increasing pressure to provide effective, value-based healthcare. For Life Healthcare, a leading private hospital group headquartered in South Africa, meeting these pressures and supporting the group’s global business requirements meant implementing an integrated platform that was aligned with its future needs.

Pieter van der Westhuizen, Chief Financial Officer and Project Sponsor at Life Healthcare, comments: “Healthcare institutions are faced with the immense challenge of combining disjointed information systems, which add complexity and requires additional expenditure. We need full visibility into our cost-effectiveness to deliver value-based care. Our requirement was for an integrated Finance, Procurement and Sales solution that could scale as the company continues its international expansion.”

Rangewave Consulting, an experienced SAP partner, successfully completed the SAP healthcare industry implementation. The project kick-off was 30 May 2016 with the go-live on 5 December 2016 covering +/- 900 users and 450 company codes, including 132 operational companies and 120 purchasing sites across South Africa and Botswana.

According to Rangewave Consulting Director Rob Hunter, Life Healthcare required a system that could help to manage risk and compliance more effectively and make group purchasing simpler and more flexible. “We needed to ensure that revenue streams were recorded, accounted for, correctly managed, and reported all within the SAP solution. It was easy for us to adapt systems seamlessly and without complications, as the SAP solution is well-designed, simple to use and aligned with the future needs of the healthcare industry.”

“The SAP solution future-proofs our ERP system, and we are now able to build a long-term application and systems roadmap. This gives us the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of our customers. With all the milestones of our current plan met, we look forward to the next phase of innovation, which will look at implementing clinical stock procurement and management, as well as the integration of our enhanced clinical system,” says Mornay Starbuck, Life Healthcare Programme Manager.

Charmaine Odendaal, Healthcare Industry Principal at SAP Africa, adds: “SAP has reimagined the platform for real-time healthcare with SAP HANA. The platform creates the foundation and gateways to connect the digital healthcare network to core solutions for patient engagement, care delivery, care collaboration, clinical analytics, and personalized medicine.”
