In this day and age, the key to attaining success in business is being able to access timely and accurate information that can be used to plan and make decisions governing the progressive improvement of your business entity.

Organizations around the globe are optimizing efficiency in their day-to-day operations by acquiring such solutions to facilitate personalisation and collaboration within the workplace and the market place.

CIO East Africa partnered with Alttab Africa Limited, a SAP Channel Partner in East and Central Africa,  to explore the power of digital innovation while finding a balance between maintaining your current infrastructure and innovating without disruption.

Discussing SAP Business By Design solution for SMEs, Patrick Kisanya, a solution specialist, touched on the fact that cloud-based solutions are bringing digital revolutions in the workplace.

“There is not enough emphasis to moving businesses to the cloud in the Digital Age. SAP Business ByDesign is a cloud-based ERP system designed for the middle and upper range of the SME market. The solution has been around for over ten years and can support everything from finance to CRM and is available anytime, anywhere, on almost any device helps users get timely business insights with integrated analytics & reporting powered by SAP HANA,” said Mr. Kisanya.

He added that the platform has been deployed in more than 90 countries and has more than 3,000 customers. The platform can have from 10 to 8,000 users.

The largest user of SAP BYD solution in East Africa is Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) with more than 2,000 users, he added.

Speaking from a user-experience perspective Orlando Lyomo, Group Finance Director and COO- Support Services at Standard Group Limited, shared the Group’s success story since the implementation of the SAP ERP System.

“Standard Media Group journey with SAP started in 2014. We wanted to automate all our processes to make it easy and clear and close revenue leakages. While implementing our ERP System we wanted a system that would address our media specific needs. We were able to deploy the SAP ERP System in six months. Since the deployment of SAP ERP System, Standard Media Group has since seen a 90 percent decrease in revenue leakage,” he said.

Other SAP Products that were discussed included SAP SuccessFactors as well as SAP HANA.

“Technology is an enabler in our businesses so CIOs shouldn’t use 72 percent of their time on keeping the lights on. Instead, CIOs should use 72 percent of their time advising the C-Suite on how to leverage on technology. SAP HANA is known as an open and standard platform. It is an in-memory, column-oriented, relational database management system developed and marketed by SAP,” said Raymond Osoro, basis consultant, Alttab Africa.

“In today’s market and business we need to think of what will take us to the next level and that is why digital age integration is equally important at the workplace,” concluded Mr. Alfred Onyango Managing Director Alttab Africa while giving his closing remarks.
