I’m excited to announce that SAP continues to receive market leadership recognition for SAP HANA. In our latest news, Gartner, for the fifth consecutive year, positioned SAP as a “leader” in its Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems (OPDMS). In the report, Gartner identified SAP as a Leader for its “ability to execute” and “completeness of vision.”
It’s also been a good year for continued progress in product innovation and increasing the number of customers that use SAP HANA for non-SAP workloads.
Listening to the Customers
Gartner weights customer experience as high in its “ability to execute” evaluation criteria.
Among our customers, Mercy and La Chapelle stand out for their experiences of combining transactions and analytics with SAP HANA.
”We are beginning to see a shift in the OPDMS market and the Data Management Systems for Analytics (DMSA) market toward a single ODMS for both sets of use cases.” The report notes, “It is becoming increasingly possible to use one vendor’s product for both DMSA and OPDMS needs, pushing those vendors that only fulfill one need toward the Niche Players quadrant. While there remains a need for best-of-fit solutions, the advantages of a single vendor from a cost and skills perspective many times outweigh the benefits from best-of-fit.”
Mercy, a health system located in the Midwest, added SAP HANA wanted to integrate internal and external data sources to help improve patient outcomes through real-time insights. The St. Louis, MO-based health system has realized:
- $65 million in additional revenue by improving clinical documentation to ensure physicians properly capture a clinical diagnosis.
- $9.42 million saved by eliminating or minimizing the use of certain surgical products, reducing variation in surgical protocols, and establishing best practices across surgical departments.
- Three-hour reduction in administering critical medication to patients suffering from heart failure and pneumonia.
Similarly, La Chapelle, a fast-growing multi-brand fashion group in China that designs, markets and sells ladies casualwear apparel, realized a set of better business outcomes after adding SAP HANA. Integrating data between ERP and enterprise systems and making it available in real time changed how La Chapelle distributed its merchandise. The company realized:
- Five percent increase in sales
- 30% reduction in logistics costs
- Increased frequency of distribution and transfers to 48 distributions per year and one transfer in the region per week.
We believe these customer stories and the recognition we’ve received from analysts are testaments to the innovation we are bringing to DBMS solutions. Our goal is to help customers unlock the business potential of their data to support a digital enterprise by providing data management solutions that deliver speed, simplicity, and intelligence.
