SAP Named Visionary in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Industrial IoT Platforms

WALLDORF SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced that independent analyst firm Gartner, Inc. has positioned SAP in the Visionaries’ quadrant of the May 2018 Magic Quadrant for Industrial IoT (IIoT) Platforms.*

SAP was evaluated for completeness of vision and ability to execute, and SAP’s product offering, SAP Leonardo, was assessed as part of the company’s evaluation.

“Being named a Visionary in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Industrial IoT solidifies SAP’s leadership in enabling customers to innovate with transformative digital technologies,” said Mala Anand, president, SAP Leonardo and Analytics, SAP. “The value of the IoT comes from what you learn by analyzing new data from smart devices and equipment, and combining it with existing data and systems.  We are helping organizations connect Internet-enabled things to business processes for innovative outcomes.”

According to Gartner, “By 2020, on-premises Internet of Things (IoT) platforms coupled with edge computing will account for up to 60 percent of industrial IoT (IIoT) analytics, up from less than 10 percent today.”

The report further states, “CIOs in industrial enterprises must cautiously approach IoT platform due diligence. Adoption is growing but the installed base of complex IT/OT integration is small and focused on narrowly defined outcomes. Focus on integration, and data and device management to ensure platforms scale with needs.”
