These are the Top Employers in SA

The Top Employer Institute has released its list of the best companies to work for in South Africa in 2019.

A global organisation dedicated to enriching the world of work and connecting top employers throughout the world has independently certified 195 African organisations as top employers based on their progressive “people-first” HR practices.

The Top Employer Institute says these organisations dedicate themselves to providing the very best working environment for employees.

The independent HR certification company assesses participants through its global HR Best Practice Survey. Companies who successfully achieve a required minimum standard as set out by the Top Employer Institute are certified as top employers.

Companies are evaluated across these key areas including, talent strategy, workforce planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, learning and development, performance management, leadership development, career and succession management, compensation and benefits, as well as culture.

The institute evaluates the implementation of HR practices and reviews how they are supported through strategy, ownership, practices and measurement.

The overall top company in South Africa is Nestlé, followed by Accenture, Microsoft, EY South Africa and Unilever.

The institute said 209 companies in Africa officially registered to participate in this year’s certification programme. Some 195 companies across 31 African countries and 23 industry sectors achieved the 2019 certification.

CEO David Plink said they believe that the 2019 certified companies demonstrate exceptional employee conditions and encourage the development of these practices by putting their people first.

“These companies help enrich the world of work with their outstanding dedication to HR excellence, and because of this, they are recognised as an employer of choice.”
Top Employers Institute Country Manager: Africa, Billy Elliott, said the certification provides employers with an important quality metric that enables them to position their brands more effectively in the attraction, retention, and engagement of top talent.

“The Top Employers Institute is not just about certifying Africa’s top employers. We have seen a progression of HR in Africa over the last few years, and it is our role to empower and advance people strategies across the world,” he said.

BusinessTech reports Vodacom was found to be the top employer in the telecoms sector, while Clicks tops the retail industry and Hollard ranked as the best employer in the financial services and insurance sector. Volkswagen leads the automotive sector.
