Nyaho Medical Centre, Ghana’s premier group medical practice, received two prestigious awards at the 2019 HR Focus Awards held in Accra.
The award for ‘Best in HR Management in Healthcare’ was given to the Centre for exceptional service, professionalism, technical expertise and outstanding performance of HR management in a healthcare facility.
Managing Director of the centre, Dr. Elikem Tamaklo, was also recognised with “HR-Oriented CEO of the Year” for his focus on People and people processes.
Receiving the award, Nana Pokua Appafram-Human Resources Director of Nyaho Medical Centre said: “This award is recognition for two years of deliberate and concerted effort to strengthen our people-processes in Nyaho Medical Centre to better-position our transformation agenda.
“The result is an investment in a world-class Human Capital Management Systems (SAP Success Factor) in order to streamline HR processes, drive efficiencies and strengthen performance management across clinical and administrative staff to promote accountability and reward excellent performance.”
She added that in order to achieve the Centre’s vision of becoming Africa’s most trusted name in healthcare, building a ‘Culture of Trust’ as an enabler to scaling is key.
“Building trust with our patients requires our people to be Reliable, Authentic, Skilled and Kind – a set of core behaviour that underpins our Leadership Standard. Hospitals where staff freely speak up if they see something that may negatively affect a patient have significant benefits for patients; including better patient safety, better understanding of patients’ care goals, and even reduced mortality rates.
“This requires an environment where people feel it is safe to challenge and voice a view, even if it means sharing this with someone with greater seniority.
“It is therefore no surprise that our Managing Director, Dr. Elikem Tamaklo, was honoured as the ‘HR-Oriented CEO of the Year’.”
These strategic initiatives were developed and implemented with support from the Board of Directors, Executive Management team and an agile HR team.
