SAP ANZ appoints Mike Robinson as Head of Telecoms

SAP creates new role to focus on telecommunications industry

Melbourne, AustraliaSAP Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) today announced the newly created role of Head of Telecommunications, appointing Mike Robinson to take up the position. Robinson will spearhead SAP’s response to recent changes and opportunities in the telecommunications industry.

An internal candidate, Robinson has more than 25 years experience in technology and telecommunications.

“It’s an exciting time for the telecommunications industry in Australia, which is central to the development of our digital economy,” said Robinson. “We have significant experience in this industry through our work with leading telecommunication companies in Australia and globally. Australia’s major telecommunications companies all have significant investment in SAP systems but we believe there will be significant growth opportunities across the industry in coming years, especially with the development of the National Broadband Network. We are also exploring new business models with telcos that will enable us to partner together and take joint products to market.”

“SAP has deep vertical telecommunications industry expertise. Combining this with Mike’s intimate knowledge of the Australian telecommunications industry and his practical grasp of the opportunities, we are in a very strong position to provide real value to the telco sector and enable the industry to respond to the emerging challenges,” said Tim Ebbeck, President & CEO, SAP ANZ. “I believe he will excel in this role.”

Robinson will continue to be based in Melbourne. He joined SAP in 1995 and for a number of years contributed to SAP’s tremendous growth before leaving to spend four years at Tibco and Bearing Point. He returned to SAP in 2005.

Robinson is an active participant in SAP’s Global Telco User Group and Global Telco IBU and has a degree in Computer Science from RMIT University.
