SAP and Extend Technologies are providing a platform that supports the Environment Protection Authority Victoria’s (EPA) regulatory and compliance functions.
MELBOURNE — SAP Australia and Extend Technologies, an NTT DATA Business Solutions Company, today announced they are developing a platform that will support EPA’s regulation and compliance functions including a client management system. The first phase of the project has already been delivered, with great results. The second phase of the program is currently underway.
EPA’s role is to be an effective environmental regulator and an influential authority on environmental impacts.The reform program will underpin EPA for the next 20-30 years so the Authority needed to future-proof processes and take advantage of the latest technologies. This included having an integrated and holistic view of its clients, stakeholders and communities to help deliver on its objectives and improve organisational performance.
The SAP solution is a key component in supporting EPA’s broader organisational reform activities which are focused on transforming the authority’s services, processes, systems and information management. The program is aimed at better aligning EPA’s operations to compliance and enforcement activities, thus improving its overall productivity internally as well as externally. The cornerstone to this reform program is the implementation of SAP CRM.
At the end of July 2012, EPA went live with the first phase of the transformation program, and it has proven to be a great success. The SAP CRM solution supports EPA in the execution of its duties and centres around customer service, core approvals and licensing, compliance inspections and the generation of regulatory notices.

Extend’s solution is based on SAP CRM 7.0 EHP1 with Investigative Case Management (ICM), Portal, Business Warehouse, Business Objects and SAP ERP. The overall business solution includes software, services and ongoing application management by Extend.
The project with EPA is part of SAP’s Urban Matters program, an initiative which was launched in May. The initiative’s primary focus is helping urban governments deliver better-run cities. Within this strategy, SAP addresses five key aspects: supporting the fundamentals of good government; empowering public officials to be more productive; increasing community engagement and openness; driving innovation around government service delivery; and improving urban resilience to help ensure public safety and security.
