SAP Establishes Local Data Centre to Bring SAP HANA in the Cloud to Australian Customers

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud offered from Sydney-based data centre enables rapid deployment of real-time, in-memory capabilities

SYDNEY, AustraliaSAP Australia announced that it has established a local data centre in Sydney equipped specifically to provide Australian organisations with the real-time capabilities of its in-memory platform, SAP HANA, in the cloud. The announcement was made by SAP Global CIO and Executive Vice President of SAP Cloud and Infrastructure Delivery Björn Goerke at the Mastering SAP Technologies conference in Melbourne.

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, as the service is called, is a private managed-cloud infrastructure giving customers the option to reduce their on premise infrastructure and run SAP HANA systems as a stable and secure managed service at an offsite data centre.

More than 3,000 organisations globally run SAP HANA as their platform for real-time business applications. With the new data centre, SAP is addressing the requirements of many Australian businesses and agencies that are eager to apply the real-time capabilities of in-memory computing but who have concerns about hosting data offshore and the capital expenditure of an on-premise deployment.

“Concerns around data sovereignty remain persistent in many countries, particularly Australia, so onshore hosting will be a source of competitive advantage for global cloud services providers,” said Steve Hodgkinson, Research Director IT, Asia Pacific at Ovum. “The winners of the cloud services game will be those that can leverage global infrastructure and software for economies of scale as well as the ability to operate locally when customers require locally accountable providers and control over the location of their data. Cloud services providers targeting the enterprise market must learn how to play both globally and locally.”

Through the SAP HANA enterprise Cloud service, customers can deploy SAP HANA applications faster, at lower cost and with less risk than a traditional on premise deployment. They can run next-generation applications such as SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse, which running on SAP HANA enables organisations to capture, store, consolidate and analyse data in real time.

Customers can also run SAP Business Suite – SAP’s flagship integrated suite of business applications, including SAP ERP and SAP CRM – on the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud service.

“With SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, we are significantly simplifying the deployment and consumption of SAP HANA for our customers,” said Andrew Barkla, President and Managing Director, SAP ANZ. “Customers can now capitalise on the agility of the SAP Cloud and the performance and simplicity of SAP HANA – all on a data centre located in Australia – to deliver innovation back to the business faster. We see SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud as a powerful means for organisations of all sizes and across all industries to lower capital expenditure and introduce much more frequent innovation non-disruptively.”

The capacity of the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud data centre is highly scalable to meet customer demand, with both SAP HANA servers and application servers. The centre will open on April 3, 2014, certified across industry standards, including ASIO T4, ISO 27001 and ISAE3402.

SAP also offers a portfolio of services to support organisations in adopting or migrating to SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, including assessment, on-boarding and migration, infrastructure hosting and application management services. The company plans to engage its extensive ecosystem of partners in the delivery of these services in the future.

The Australia-based data centre for SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is part of SAP’s global data centre strategy to provide full security and regional data compliance to all its customers. “The Australian data centre provides the backbone for customers to enjoy a safe, secure transition to the cloud at their desired speed, allowing them to focus on operational excellence and beating their competition while SAP runs their systems for them,” said Björn Goerke. The data centres support the full range of cloud deployment options, from public to managed cloud, as well as hybrid models.

In addition to SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud, SAP Australia currently also offers locally hosted cloud capabilities for its SuccessFactors solutions, part of the SAP for HR portfolio and for its cloud-based ERP suite, SAP Business ByDesign.
