Leadership position to further align operations to deliver SAP Cloud powered by SAP HANA
SYDNEY, Australia — SAP Australia today announced the appointment of John Ruthven as chief operating officer (COO) for SAP Australia and New Zealand. As COO, Ruthven is responsible for SAP’s local Presales, Industry Value Engineering and Sales Operations teams, each integral to SAP’s ability help customers run better and more simply.
Ruthven joined SAP in January this year as the regional lead for Cloud and Line of Business Solutions across the SAP Asia Pacific Japan (APJ). Here he supported customers across the region to transition to SAP’s comprehensive set of as-a-service offerings and led SAP APJ’s 48% year-over-year growth in cloud subscriptions and support revenue.
In the role of COO, Ruthven will continue to drive cloud momentum by optimising local operations to deliver as-a-service offerings as well as the SAP HANA platform to customers in Australia and New Zealand.
Ruthven has more than 20 years’ experience in the IT industry, in local, regional and global functions across management and sales operations, including senior vice president of International Sales at Zuora Inc. and General Manager of Emerging Markets at CA Technologies.
“In today’s complex world, SAP is committed to helping our customers simplify to improve performance and customer engagement,” said Andrew Barkla, President and Managing Director, SAP Australia and New Zealand. “As more and more Australian and New Zealand organisations move to the cloud, our solutions powered by SAP HANA are a key part of this simplification. John Ruthven’s appointment will ensure we continue our course as an open co-innovator to better serve organisations as they transition to the cloud.”
Alone in the second quarter of 2014, more than 40 customers in Australia and New Zealand signed cloud contracts with SAP, while contracts for SAP HANA increased well above expectations. “The market is demanding cloud, and by powering this delivery model with the SAP HANA platform, we are in the prime position to deliver for organisations of all sizes and across industries,” Ruthven said.
