Chemical Industry: Digital Transformation as a Success Model

The buzz: Wake up and smell the coffee!

Digital Transformation is real and more relevant than ever for Chemical companies.

Why? Exciting technology advancements now enable them to sense and respond in real time, predict patterns before they happen, and personalize products and services like never before.

But according to SAP’s Rich Seltz, many in the industry misunderstand term the term “digital”. They only think of it in terms of improving their manufacturing and supply chain – not as a path to grow profitability and achieve sustainable competitiveness.

The result? They’re simply replaying past digital efforts – resulting in “déjà vu all over again” (Yogi Berra).

The effort is well worth it, says Greg Gorbach at ARC Advisory Group: “Digitization is the means to participate in the changing ecosystem, and to transform business processes based on data and dynamic market signals.”

But Solenis’s Charles Wallace warns, “Digitization is not the ‘IT problem’, it is now a real business requirement.”

The time has come for Chemical companies to refocus their digital lens on the future – and that future starts now.

The experts speak.

Greg Gorbach, a Vice President and Industry Analyst at ARC Advisory Group: “If we have data, let’s look at data. If all we have are opinions, let’s go with mine.” (Jim Barksdale, former Netscape CEO)

Charles Wallace, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Solenis: “Some people don’t like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster.” (Elon Musk)

Rich Seltz, Vice President of Digital Transformation at SAP: “If you have always done it that way, it is probably wrong.” (Charles Kettering)
