Forrester Research Names SAP in Leaders Category for Streaming Analytics

Feature Article | September 19, 2017 by Greg McStravick

Sharing great news about SAP’s accomplishments always feels good, especially in our ultra-competitive industry. I’m thrilled to say that Forrester has recognized SAP as a “Leader” in The Forrester Wave™: Streaming Analytics, Q3 2017.

For the report, Forrester chose SAP to be among the 13 most significant streaming analytics providers, and the researchers evaluated the solutions across 25 criteria. I’m proud to say that SAP earned 5/5 scores for 10 criteria including administration, deployment, acquisition and pricing, ability to execute, implementation support, and partners.

Bringing Real-Time Decision Making to Business

The timing for this recognition could not be better as businesses are searching for enterprise solutions to build real-time applications for real-time decision making. We’re seeing growing interest for applications that serve financial services, healthcare, supply chain, oil and gas, call centers, fleet management and asset monitoring. Companies are adding these solutions so they can analyze streaming data from multiple data sources, including enterprise apps, mobile apps, sensors, websites, social media feeds, and more.

While streaming analytics isn’t new, the category is evolving rapidly as businesses hone in on what they need in a solution for their application development and delivery teams. Here’s how Forrester defines streaming analytics:

Software that provides analytical operators to orchestrate data flow, calculate analytics, and detect patterns on event data from multiple, disparate live data sources to allow developers to build applications that sense, think, and act in real time.

When business has streaming analytics available, developers are building apps that will detect when a shipment will be late, when there will be traffic delays, when refinery equipment is near failure, and when a customer is shopping for a specific product. In our dynamic, digital world, businesses are turning to these types of apps that can sense, think, and act in real time to help them automate processes that lead to better business outcomes.
