Analysts say that it is only a small step from virtualization to cloud computing, whereby companies access programs and memory over the Internet. The advent of cloud computing marks the start of the industrialization of IT, according to scientist, sociologist, and political advisor Franz Büllingen, who claims that highly flexible IT resources have the potential to improve the efficiency of business processes on a macroeconomic scale and impact society as a whole. Among other things, data centers in the public sector can cut their costs drastically.
René Obermann, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, goes a step further: “Using cloud computing, many companies will manage without their own in-house data centers in just a few years.”
