Fred Leichter Fidelity Labs Innovation Group, Fidelity Investment
Fred Leichter is responsible for design thinking and innovation programs at Fidelity Labs – Fidelity Investment’s innovation group. Fred is also a lecturer at Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (the d.school.) Previously Fred was a Fidelity sponsored Fellow at the d.school. In this one year residency at Stanford, Fred taught several classes and worked on a significant project for Fidelity: Understanding the needs of aging families and learning about the conversations that often do not happen within families about long term health and end-of-life planning. Fred has also served as Fidelity’s Chief Customer Experience Officer. In this role, he advocated for the customer in major technology initiatives across Fidelity and, as part of Fidelity Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), leads Fidelity’s Design Thinking practice. He also chairs the Fidelity Global Web Experience Board.
Prior to this, Fred was the Senior Vice President of User Interface Design for Fidelity. Fred established design as a unique discipline at Fidelity and built a team of over 150 associates who are responsible for the information architecture, visual design, and usability testing for all of Fidelity’s customer facing interfaces, web, software and wireless. Mr. Leichter has been with Fidelity for 24 years. Since 1995, he has been immersed in the development and dramatic expansion of Fidelity’s Online Brokerage and Online Benefits Servicing businesses.
Prior to joining Fidelity, Fred was a Product Manager for Saddlebrook, a Cambridge, Massachusetts based banking software provider. He began his career as a systems developer with Merrill Lynch in New York.
Fred Leichter holds a BA in Mathematics from Swarthmore College and has done graduate work in Computer Science at Columbia University. He sits on the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Foundation Board and served on the Leadership Committee for the Design Industry Group of Massachusetts (DIGMA).
