Joana Breidenbach holds a PhD in cultural anthropology and is the author of numerous publications on the cultural consequences of globalization, including Seeing Culture Everywhere (University of Washington Press, 2009).

After a five-month trip around the world with her husband and children, Joana co-founded betterplace.org in 2007. To date, the Berlin-based social business is Germany’s largest donation platform. Joana heads the betterplace lab, a think-and-do tank seeking to improve the social sector through the use of digital technologies.
