Internet of Things: The Third Wave – Already?

Radiocasts | April 19, 2016 by Bonnie D. Graham

The buzz: Three’s a charm.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of how the IoT will impact our lives, cities, businesses – but we’re already hearing about exciting breakthroughs in the 3rd wave of IoT.

To catch you up… Wave 1: the sensitization of everything, starting to collect the data. Wave 2: sending that data to a data center / cloud to process it (but analysts estimate 60% of that data is not processed). Wave 3: harnessing computer resources at ‘the edge’.

What does all of this mean for your company?

The experts speak.

JR Fuller, HP: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer…Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” (Frank Herbert, Dune)

John Elliott, Accenture: “I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.” (Kurt Vonnegut, Player Piano)

Dr. Shuki Idan, SAP: “The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.” (Karl Marx)
