SAP Japan Helps Children Take Part in FIRST LEGO League, the World’s Biggest Robot Contest

Three teams mentored by SAP Japan reach world finals

TokyoIn 31 countries worldwide, SAP Japan Co., Ltd. supports FIRST LEGO League (FLL), the world’s biggest robot contest, which was developed by the non-profit organization For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) and The LEGO Group, as a practical robot engineering program. As part of this initiative, 15 employees of SAP Japan have served as volunteer mentors and coaches to teams of children every weekend from July 2005. In accordance with the FLL rules, the teams consist of children aged between 9 and 15 (excluding high school students).

As a result of the FLL National Final, which took place on February 19 in Landmark Hall, Yokohama Landmark Tower 5F, Nishi-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture,(Hosted by NPO Foundation Promoting Science and Technology to the Youth First Japan) three teams mentored and coached by SAP Japan employees – SAP Edisons, SAP Eleven, and SAP Light Bird – earned the right to enter the FIRST Championship on April 27-29 in the US, and the European Open Championship on May 6-7 in the Netherlands.

The winning teams at the National Final were as follows.
1. Directors Award For America: SAP Eleven

Excellent presentation, teamwork, and achievement in the robot contest

2. Directors Award For Europe: SAP Light Bird

Excellent presentation, teamwork, and achievement in the robot contest

3. Robot Performance Award For America: SAP Edisons
